For optimal performance, it is recommended to rinse the membrane elements for 24 hours before first use and discard the initial full tank of permeate. The membranes should be kept moist at all times, and a preservative solution can be used to prevent biological growth during prolonged system shutdowns. While the membrane shows some resistance to short-term chlorine exposure, continuous exposure should be avoided.
